Innovative and Patient Focused Research

TRIA Orthopaedic Research Institute

Research and education is at the core of who we are. That’s why we invest first in efforts to improve patient care and enhance the medical profession. TRIA Orthopaedic Research Institute, housed within TRIA Orthopaedic Center, advances the science of orthopaedic medicine through a rich blend of education and research programs.
Bio-Skills Laboratory
Physicians from all over the world travel to TRIA Orthopaedic Research Institute to learn the newest orthopaedic techniques from TRIA experts in our advanced Bio-Skills Lab. Connectivity throughout the labs, surgical suites and conference rooms allows for enhanced teaching opportunities. TRIA experts can show precise minimally-invasive techniques, while surgeons in the bio-skills lab mirror the technique by watching side-by-side live video on flat panel monitors at each station.
Conferences
For over 10 years, TRIA experts have been educating doctors, therapists and athletic trainers through our Spring Sports Medicine Conference. This two-day conference features practical case-based learning, hands-on break out sessions and the latest in sports medicine. TRIA also offers community conferences where local medical professionals can expand their expertise. These weekly conferences focus on orthopedic-related topics and conditions, and participants can receive continuing medical education (CME) credit.

TRIA Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Conference,
Thursday, September 11 and Friday, September 12

Sports Medicine Fellowship
Orthopaedic specialists at TRIA train the next generation of orthopaedic leaders through our sports medicine fellowship program, accredited through the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). For over 20 years, the sports medicine fellowship program has given surgeons, who have already completed their five years of training in orthopaedic surgery, further specialized training in sports medicine. Fellows work alongside the attending physician in clinic and out on the field at pro, college, and high school sporting events.

For more fellowship information, email Dr. David Fischer at David.Fischer@tria.com.
Medical Residents and TRIA
TRIA Orthopaedic Center is one of a select six locations where University of Minnesota orthopaedic surgery residents receive their training. With rotations in sports (family medicine), hand and foot and ankle, TRIA faculty provides a comprehensive educational experience for orthopaedic residents, as well as medical students.
Relevant, Patient-Focused Research Studies
Through relevant, patient-focused research, we can measure the rate patients recover, return to activity and overall functional recovery. These clinical studies give us a strong basis to implement care changes to improve patient results. We continue this circular process of measuring, improving and measuring again to sustain innovation.

Research studies are conducted right here in TRIA’s general and sub-specialty clinics through our Research Institute. We give patients the opportunity to be study participants, involving them in the very research that will improve their care, as well as the care of others in the future.
Innovative Research
We balance our research with studies aimed at evaluating new forms of treatment, such as assessing stem-cell transplantation, new prostheses for focal knee arthritis, and new ligament fixation in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, to name a few.
